Less Work Will Make You Profitable

A dental practice devotes several hours during the day preparing, performing and sterilizing for a single procedure. That time equates to a substantial amount of manual labor cost that is considered a “normal expense” when it comes to running a dental office. What if you could take that manual labor cost, divide it up and move it to different areas of your practice to make it more profitable?

A dental instrument cassette is a simple yet dynamic tool

Cassettes not only help in controlling your manual labor costs but bring a quick, favorable return to you without a large investment.  Purchasing a cassette will pay for itself as soon as a month after implementation and then begins to make you money without any overhead attached to it. On average a cassette will save you 5-10 minutes per procedure performed. Multiply that by how many times you perform that procedure a day, week and month…now you can see where you are gaining financial ground. You are saving money per procedure cutting labor costs and now profiting from the saved time by scheduling more appointments or offering a larger range of services.

With a cassette, there is no more individual handling, cleaning or sorting of the instruments

A dental instrument cassette eliminates prep and cleaning time that would otherwise be occupied by meticulous hands-on work. It secures the procedural instruments safely and organized making chairside simple. Sterilizes effectively by keeping instrumentation together through the ultrasonic and autoclaving process and sits in sterilization collectively waiting to be called upon for the next procedure to be performed.

Why Cassettes DO NOT meet OSHA/CDC Requirements

Bloodborne Pathogens are creating quite a stir in the dental world these days. Many practices are realizing they need stronger protocols on how to contain and transport their instruments and materials; both to keep their patients protected from cross-contamination and themselves. Many practices are being proactive and utilizing a dental instrument cassette to streamline their procedure performance and to be more in line with the regulatory side of dental. Unfortunately, there is more to this standard to keep in compliance with than just a cassette.

What are the Standards?

Here they are in a nutshell:

OSHA (1910.1030(e)(2)(ii)(B):

Contaminated materials that are to be decontaminated at a site away from the work area shall be placed in a durable, leakproof, labeled or color-coded container that is closed before being removed from the work area.

Minimize handling of loose contaminated instruments during transport to the instrument processing area. Use work practice controls, (e.g. carry instruments in a covered container), to minimize exposure potential.

How do you Become Compliant with OSHA & the CDC?

You need to use a leakproof and puncture proof container for your contaminated  procedural items. Cassettes do offer the protection against instrument pokes but still expose everyone to the risk of Bloodborne Pathogens through leaks and spills.  Zirc offers a simple solution to this which is to use a dental instrument tray and Safe-Lok® cover. This provides safe transportation that eliminates the risk of any contaminated items injuring or infecting anyone. You will have to replace your existing trays to accommodate the Safe-Lok® covers but the investment into this proper protocol will be nothing compared to the fine that you could potentially receive for not following the OSHA requirements.

Beyond the OSHA & CDC

Zirc’s trays, tubs and Safe-Lok® covers go beyond just meeting proper protocol with industry standards. The dental storage tub decreases operatory clutter by reducing inventories and the tray allows a practice to set up their procedures prior to performing for the day eliminating all pre-procedure setup time. In addition to an efficiency boost, the covers allow for counter saving stackablility and dust control keeping all items safe and secure while being stored.

Small Steps for a Giant Leap – Stress

We are faced with stress everyday in our lives. It’s a matter of how you can avoid it, handle it or move on from it that determines whether you can stay clear of the negative side-effects that can prevail.

The Facts

According to the American Psychological Association at the American Institute of Stress in New York, our jobs are the number one thing that stresses us out and 48% surveyed say it has an effect on their personal and professional life. No surprise really, we spend a good portion of our week at work and then play catch-up in our spare time to satisfy our personal needs leaving very little room for ourselves to unwind and bring our mind or body back to center.

What does this have to do with dental?

Well…everything. I don’t need to tell you that there are stressors at your practice; timely- scheduled procedures, sudden appointment cancellations, emergency appointments, procedure preps, sterilization processes. There are not enough hours in the day and you deal with a lot of factors throughout that can make even Eutychia an unhappy worker. Simple changes can lead to positive results along with creating happier and healthier people.

Is Zirc the Answer?

Can Zirc solve all of your stress-related concerns? Of course not, but when our research and design team gets together to bring effective dental products and techniques to the industry there are 3 values considered during this process. Innovation. Quality. Efficiency. Not only will these values help a dental practice profit more as a business, it will also enhance the unity and flow to what goes on in front of a patient and behind the sterilization walls. Decreasing your material inventories and increasing your procedure efficiencies will help you gain more time in your work day adding more value to your practice and co-workers all-the-while putting a smile on your face.

A Practice Saving $117,000

Recently, a passionate Zirc customer had performed an in-depth case study on using our products and techniques. Getting a quick and favorable return will definitely relieve some stress but think about the improved productivity and long term positive effects this practice will now enjoy creating an overall better workplace.

The Small Step

Don’t try to fix all of your stressors at once. Change one thing you do during a procedure or sterilization process that you think may help relieve stress or make you feel more positive while doing your job. Try it for a short period of time, and if it does not work you can always revert back.

We are all in this (life) together, leave a comment and share some sort of stress reliever that you feel makes your day more enjoyable.
